EDITORIAL SERVICES
FOR AUTHORS WHO ARE READY
Your story deserves a professional edit. Not a predatory price tag.
Most editorial services are priced for authors with traditional publishing advances. Pembrooke Publications is priced for everyone else - the debut novelist who finished their first draft at midnight, the indie author who has been sitting on a manuscript because they can't afford the next step.
We don't gatekeep craft.
About the Editor
I'm Katie Pembrooke - indie author, publisher, and the editor behind every service on this page.
I write dark fiction. I know what it costs to build a story from nothing and what it feels like to hand those words to someone else and hope they treat them with care. I built Pembrooke Publications because professional editorial support shouldn't be a luxury reserved for authors with deep pockets.
Every manuscript that comes through this office gets read by someone who has been exactly where you are.
U.S. Navy veteran. Working author. In your corner.
A LA CARTE SERVICES
Choose exactly what your manuscript needs - nothing more, nothing less.
Beta Reading
Your draft is done. Now it needs real eyes - not a friend who loves you, but a reader who understands story structure, genre conventions, and what makes a reader keep going at 2 am.
Beta reading involves a thorough read-through and a written feedback report that covers pacing, character development, plot structure, and the overall reader experience.
Manuscript Assessment
A big picture structural evaluation of your manuscript. This is not a line edit. It is a detailed letter addressing your story’s architecture: structure, pacing, point of view, character arcs, and genre fit.
Ideal before you invest in a full edit.
Proofreading
This is the final pass - the one that stands between your manuscript and the reader. Proofreading catches spelling errors, punctuation inconsistencies, grammatical mistakes, and typographical issues. Best for manuscripts that have already been edited and are nearly publication-ready.
Copyediting
A thorough editorial pass focused on grammar, punctuation, sentence clarity, internal consistency, and style. Copyediting ensures your manuscript reads cleanly and professionally - without flattening your voice.
Line Editing
This is where prose gets sharp.
Line editing works at the sentence and paragraph level - scrutinizing voice, rhythm, word choice, flow, and pacing. It is the most intensive editorial pass, and it is for authors who are not just trying to publish a clean book. They are trying to write a great one.
